Category C (HGV Class 2) Training Course – 4 Days
Our Category C HGV training package is designed to get you road-ready efficiently. Whether you’re new to the industry or upgrading your licence, we coordinate everything – from medical and theory through to your practical test.
Why Category C? Category C (also known as Class 2) allows you to drive a rigid lorry over 3.5 tonnes, including lorries, tippers, box trucks and refuse vehicles. It’s a practical qualification with strong demand across delivery, construction, logistics and more.
- Career opportunities — the UK logistics sector has consistent, growing demand for qualified drivers
- Earning potential — starting salaries typically range from £28,000 to £38,000+
- Flexibility — from local delivery routes to long-distance haulage, shift patterns, overtime and long-term contracts
- Progression — Category C is also the foundation for upgrading to Category C+E (artic and drawbar vehicles)
What does the process look like?
Step 1: Medical & provisional licence application A DVLA medical is required before you can begin HGV training. This must be conducted independently — your own GP can carry this out, or we can refer you to a local medical centre. We’ll support you through the provisional Category C licence application at the same time.
Step 2: Theory test You’ll need to pass two elements before moving to practical training:
- Multiple choice questions
- Hazard perception test
If applicable, CPC Module 2 is also required at this stage. We provide access to online revision materials and mock tests to help you prepare, and we’ll book your theory test once you’re ready.
Step 3: Practical training (4 days) Training takes place over 4 days with DVSA-approved instructors in a modern HGV vehicle. Sessions cover:
- Vehicle safety checks
- Manoeuvring and reversing
- Driving on rural, urban and dual carriageway routes
- Test preparation
Step 4: Practical test We book your official DVSA practical test. Pass, and your Category C licence is issued.
