HGV Licence — Category C (Rigid) Category C covers rigid vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and is the standard starting point for most professional HGV drivers.

HGV Licence — Category C+E (Artic & Drawbar) Category C+E covers articulated and drawbar vehicles – the highest HGV licence category. We offer two routes:

Cat C + C+E combined — if you’re starting from scratch, you can now train for both licences together. Since 2021, provisional entitlement for Cat C and C+E is granted at the same time, meaning you can qualify faster than ever.
Cat C+E upgrade — if you already hold a Category C licence and want to progress to artic or drawbar work, we’ll arrange your C+E training and test directly.

Driver CPC A legal requirement for anyone driving an HGV professionally who obtained their Category C or C+E licence after 10 September 2009. If you hold an older licence, you’ll still need to complete 35 hours of periodic CPC training every five years to keep driving professionally.

I have recently undertaken a 4 day intensive course under the guidance of Matt, and I was totally overwhelmed to learn after my test I had successfully passed my Cat C licence first time with only two minors. Matt has years of teaching experience, knew the test routes inside out, and worked on my weaker areas during the training, he also allowed me to repeat areas of the test routes I thought I needed more confidence on, having only ever driven up to 3.5t and developing loads of bad habits with a nippy car mentality, Matt knew he had his work cut out and even after hours of training I still, on test day was unsure of my competence to pass and was feeling the nerves. I knuckled down and when I concentrated all I could hear was Matts commanding but reassuring voice guiding me on my next move, which resulted in my success- a first time pass! The guys at Surrey and Hampshire HGV driver training have a great working relationship with each other, other trainers and the examiners along with a phenomenal work ethic and genuinely seem enjoy their jobs- I knew Matt was proud of me, and although he would never admit it he knew he gave me the tools to pass and I used them wisely. Hi David I carried out my training to become a hgv driver at your chobham centre on the 23 may, on arrive I was welcomed by the team which is based there and I found this to be a warm welcome so they made time to introduce there self and even offer you tea and coffee which really calms the nerves. I then spoke with my instructor which was bob he really try's his best to make you comfy at the centre and try's to get to no you a bit. I found the training extremely helpful and was really impressed with the training I had within the 4 days I was there. I really liked the way bob sets you up with some one else so you are learning from another drivers errors as your own and on the plus you aint stuck behind the wheel for the hole 8 hours. Category C Course

The 16 hour Category C course will provide you with everything you need to get through your test, obtain your LGV licence and get out into the workplace. The recommended course comprises of quality tuition tailored to suit your individual learning needs with an instructors before going for your test.

Fast Track C & C+E Course

If you would like to take both licences one after the other, that's no problem. The Fast-Track Course comprises of 6-days quality training and testing with an instructor, who will work with you to get through both your LGV licence and your HGV licence quickly and successfully.

Category C+E Course

If you have already taken your Category C licence (LGV licence) independently and are looking to upgrade, you can train for your C+E licence (HGV licence) with absolute confidence. Our recommended 16-hour C+E course comprises of quality tuition tailored to suit your individual learning needs with an instructor before going for your test.

Pass Protection

Sometimes the unexpected happens. Because of that, we’ve come up with Pass Protection. This guarantees you an extra retest and up to two hours refresher training if you don’t pass first time. Many candidates in the past have found that having Pass Protection has given them the confidence required to relax and get through the HGV test and obtain their HGV licence.
