\nAsda has taken delivery of 45 dual-temperature refrigerated longer semi-trailers (LSTs) from manufacturer Cartwright, as part of its strategy to reduce road miles across the business.
\nOperating out of the supermarket giant\u2019s Falkirk, Bedford and Lutterworth sites, the new LSTs will carry both frozen and chilled produce and feature command steer, which Cartwright recommends on 15.65m trailers fitted with a tri-deck steering system.
\nDarren Holland, group sales director at Cheshire-based Cartwright, says: \u201cThis has been a very exciting project for both Cartwright and Asda. The end product is the result of a committee approach with ASDA unions, operatives and their engineers involved in the specification and design.\u201d
\nAsda says the new LSTs will play an integral part in its strategy to reduce the company\u2019s carbon footprint through reduced miles on the road with the advantage of more product moved and greater fuel savings.
\nChris Hall, Asda national transport manager, adds: \u201cOur investment in a new fleet of dual-temperature refrigerated longer semi-trailers is not only evidence of our continued green policy, but of our ongoing partnership with Cartwright who have worked closely with our teams on this order.
\n\u201cThis is undoubtedly one of our most exciting distribution initiatives and will help us to maintain our position at the forefront of innovation in retail distribution.\u201d
