Truck drivers and their employers can expect to face tough action if they fail to comply with the EU training requirement, the Driver CPC.
\nDrivers would be likely to have their vocational driving licence suspended, meaning they would be unable to carry on driving; and their employers could have action taken against the licence that allows them to run trucks.<\/p>\n
These warnings are made by Beverley Bell, senior traffic commissioner, who was speaking to 200 trainers at the Road Haulage Association\u2019s National Training Conference, held at the National Motor Cycle Museum last week.<\/p>\n
The STC\u2019s comments are the clearest indication yet that the industry cannot ignore the new DCPC requirements and come amid fears that a significant proportion of the industry have not yet started to take the obligation seriously, in an expectation that there will be no enforcement or regulatory action.<\/p>\n
Mrs Bell said: \u201cThe Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) will have the power to issue fixed penalty notices and all those will be referred to the traffic commissioners. We are likely to order the suspension of the driver\u2019s vocational entitlement until DCPC training has been completed; and we will write to the operator asking why it has failed to take the necessary action to ensure compliance.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery case will be viewed on the facts but one option available is to suspend the operation of the driver\u2019s vehicle, along with the driver\u2019s licence, and there is the option of taking even tougher action against the operator\u2019s licence,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe traffic commissioners want all operators to seize the DCPC as an opportunity to invest in the professionalism and ability of their drivers,\u201d she told the conference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
