\nTransport for London (TfL) has released its free Freight Journey Planner to help operators plan their journeys during this summer\u2019s Olympic and Paralympic Games.
\nThe planner, developed by Pie Mapping, calculates the most appropriate route for operators to take during the Games period based on the date and time of day and the vehicle\u2019s dimensions.
\nAlthough free to all, the journey planner offers further functionality to members of TfL\u2019s Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme. This includes the ability to save your routes, chosen locations, and vehicle and driver details.
\nFrom later this month the planner will incorporate road event routes and the timings for the traffic management restrictions that will be in place around venues. From July, live data will be fed into the planner every five minutes providing new routeing options based on the latest information on road traffic incidents, congestion levels and temporary road closures.
\nGeoff Dunning, chief executive of the Road Haulage Association, says: \u201cThe good news is that this initiative won\u2019t just benefit those who need to deliver products and service to the Games, it will also help operators who want to avoid the venues altogether.\u201d
