{"id":783,"date":"2012-01-04T14:29:47","date_gmt":"2012-01-04T12:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.surreyandhampshirehgvtraining.co.uk\/news\/?p=121"},"modified":"2012-01-04T14:29:47","modified_gmt":"2012-01-04T12:29:47","slug":"plan-to-ease-lorry-satnav-problem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.surreyandhampshirehgvtraining.co.uk\/index.php\/plan-to-ease-lorry-satnav-problem\/","title":{"rendered":"Plan to ease lorry satnav problem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The coalition Government is making it easier for local authorities to tackle the problem caused by satnavs guiding lorry drivers down narrow residential roads.<\/p>\n<p>Transport minister Norman Baker will ease restrictions on councils as part of a package of new traffic signs rules.<\/p>\n<p>Councils will no longer need Whitehall approval to introduce various signs &#8211; including those indicating that a route is unsuitable for lorries.<\/p>\n<p>These are often necessary when regular nuisance traffic is created by erroneous satnav directions, which can place truckers with the wrong <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rac.co.uk\/route-planner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">journey planner<\/a> in embarrassing and time-consuming predicaments.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Baker described the current situation as &#8220;ludicrous&#8221; and said the changes would cut bureaucracy and give councils the flexibility to swiftly improve signage once a problem was reported.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The coalition Government is making it easier for local authorities to tackle the problem caused by satnavs guiding lorry drivers down narrow residential roads.
