These are typically rigid-body vehicles such as refuse trucks or delivery lorries.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Category C+E \u2013 Articulated Vehicles<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This licence is required to drive vehicles in the <\/span><b>C category<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> paired with a trailer exceeding <\/span><b>750kg<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s the highest-level HGV licence, enabling you to drive articulated lorries or vehicles with detachable trailers, often referred to as \u201cartics\u201d in the logistics sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All professional HGV driver licences require you to pass the Driver CPC, and it\u2019s something that has ongoing learning attached. So it\u2019s never too early to start familiarising yourself with these topics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What is the CPC?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The European Union first introduced the Driver CPC in 2008 to improve the safety and standard of commercial drivers. It\u2019s a legal requirement for all HGV drivers who intend to work for commercial purposes within the UK and the EU.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The purpose of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.surreyandhampshirehgvtraining.co.uk\/index.php\/cpc-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CPC programme<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is twofold:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>To Enhance Road Safety<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 Ensuring drivers are fully equipped with the skills to handle large vehicles and respond to dangers on the road.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>To Promote Professional Standards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 Encouraging drivers to stay current with best practices in logistics and operations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without a valid Driver CPC, you cannot drive professionally in the UK or EU. Here\u2019s an explanation of each:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Module 1: Theory Test<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first step is a computer-based <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.surreyandhampshirehgvtraining.co.uk\/index.php\/how-hard-hgv-theory-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">theory test<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is split into two parts:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Multiple Choice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 100 questions covering rules of the road, vehicle safety, and professional standards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Hazard Perception<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 19 video clips designed to test your ability to anticipate and respond to potential hazards.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To pass, you\u2019ll need to achieve at least 85 out of 100 in the multiple-choice test and 67 out of 100 in hazard perception.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Module 2: Case Studies<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This module evaluates your real-world knowledge through a series of scenario-based questions. The case studies are centred on situations you might encounter as an HGV driver, such as managing delivery schedules, dealing with emergencies, or adhering to safety regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passing this module requires a score of 40 out of 50.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Module 3: Practical Test<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The practical driving test involves operating an HGV on public roads, as well as performing specific manoeuvres such as reversing or parking. This module assesses your driving proficiency, vehicle control, and understanding of road safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your skills will also be tested on questions related to maintaining load safety, preventing truck rollovers, and ensuring proper use of tachographs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Module 4: Practical Demonstration<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final module is a practical demonstration of your knowledge on safety protocols, vehicle checks, and ensuring secure cargo. Expect to showcase your expertise in areas such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vehicle walkaround checks\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Securing different types of loads\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Handling emergency scenarios\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll need at least 80 out of 100 to pass.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passing all four modules means that you <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/transport\/professional-driving-of-lorries-buses-and-coaches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pass your CPC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and are issued with a DQC &#8211; a Driver Qualification Card. You\u2019ll need to carry this with you at all times whilst driving. Without it, you may receive a fixed penalty fine of \u00a350.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Periodic CPC Training<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every 5 years, your DQC will need to be reissued following the completion of 35 hours of training over that time. This works out at 7 hours each year and can easily be tracked and completed with your training provider.
